1. Experience and Product Knowledge
The Busfield sales team have a combined 30 years in the brokerage business  between them along with a vast background in the marine industry, from naval architecture & yacht design, world cruising, racing, deliveries, charter operation, boat building & refitting, and of course yacht sales. This experience, ability and knowledge is at your command – we will provide clear and substantiated advice on a realistic value of your boat as well as creating a comprehensive marketing plan.
In addition to New Zealand based boats we have helped many international cruisers sell their boats – we know the ins and outs of the Temporary Import Exemption (TIE) , GST and duty charges. We can market your boat both for the closer New Zealand client as well as international buyers through our global internet advertising. If you are thinking of selling your boat in NZ then contact us before you get here and we can advise you on the process and how best to market your boat on the way and once you get here.

2. Professionalism and Integrity
We are a small team of Christine Bird & Colin Rees and both come with a strong focus on honesty and personal friendly service. We care about each and every boat we list and both brokers working here will view her and be able to discuss her from a first hand basis to prospective purchasers. You know you will receive our wholehearted support and commitment to achieve a positive result. Our brokers are professional and reputable with the experience, negotiating skills, and proven infrastructure / contractual agreement with the backing and authorisation from the national New Zealand Marine Industries Association (MIA) to safe guard your interests.

3. Preparation of Sales Specifications
Here at Busfield’s we prepare detailed, accurate and attractive particulars for each boat that we list for sale.  Yacht buyers have access to a great deal of choice and we recognise the importance of your boat standing out in terms of information available and photographic content.

4. Practical Support
Using Busfield Marine Brokers to work for you will undoubtedly save you time. Selling a boat means showing a boat, and that’s every time someone is interested in ‘having a look’. A boat is a luxury item and people like to dream about that type of luxury – in this industry, there are many dreamers. Again, this is when it is helpful to have a professional approach as a broker has the experience and knowledge to both market and show the boat to potential buyers and not ‘dreamers’. And not just the many viewings, Busfield’s will also take control over the negotiation, contracts, surveys through to completion with change of ownership.

5. Financial security
Many boat buyers are very insecure during purchase. We at Busfields have our own trust account for all vessel transactions and having been some 28 years in the business and members of the NZ Marine Industry Association relieve them of their concerns regarding their deposit ...they can simply get on with purchasing your vessel. For you too there is a comfort in knowing that all monetry dealings will be handled in a professional way.

6. Extensive Internet Advertising
When you appoint us as your broker you can be sure that your yacht will receive global marketing, via our wide internet presence on a number of established boat advertising websites, including yachtworld.com, trademe.com, tradeaboat.com and yachthub.com as well as our own site giving each boat excellent online exposure. We recognise that web-based advertising is vital in the global connecting of boats with buyers and are continually expanding this side of our marketing. Improved internet access means that a brokerage does not have to be huge to reach its target market.
It is possible as an individual selling your boat privately to advertise on some of these sites and on face value, it is an obvious option that will appeal to many owners. However, this option is really only successful for boats that appeal to a limited market (such as a trailer boat or specific type of vessel) as the scope of these website tools are limited in reaching only a fraction of the market. Potential global buyers for instance, are not, sorting through local auction websites.

7. A Full Marketing Plan
We continue to advertise in the more traditional print media while our new yacht commitments mean that we are also on hand to market brokerage yachts at the major In the Water Boat Show here in Auckland. We are also happy to discuss with you specific targeted advertising on an individual boat basis.

8. High Profile Location
Our location is ideal with our office being based in Westhaven Marina in the heart of Auckland city and our window display attracts a great deal of attention from passing foot traffic within the marina. With over 2,000 berths and swinging moorings here combined with the long standing reputation of Busfield Marine anyone seriously looking to buy a boat ends up here sooner or later!

9. Sales Berth
Busfield also has a Sales Berth in a highly sought after position within Westhaven Marina available to any vessel on a Sole Agency Agreement with us. A newly listed boat berthed here certainly creates a considerable interest.

10. Proactive Approach
We currently have clients actively searching for suitable boats, both yachts and launches, and need new listings to be able to keep up with this demand. When you list your boat with Busfield’s we will contact clients from our database that have previously enquired about similar vessels.

11. Market Information
We believe it is essential to keep you the owner informed. We will therefore be in contact regularly to update you on where we have got to with the sale, to discuss today’s market with you and to assess how she is being received in that market. In this way you are in a position to make an informed decision when an offer is made on your yacht.

For all of the above there is a commission charge of 6.5% + GST for the first $250,000 then 4.5% after that. This is of course only payable when we sell your boat and is considerably less than in many other countries. We choose to do the job properly and charge an appropriate commission for doing this. In our opinion, in a difficult market it is important to maintain a high level of marketing, exploring every avenue available to us. We are dedicated to continuing to offer this level of service and are always looking for ways of improving it.
